The Young Women’s World Forum 2011 (YWWF 2011) will take place between 19 and 26 March 2011 at Our Chalet, Our Cabaña, Pax Lodge and Sangam simultaneously.
This exciting event is the second in a series of events which are part of the global centenary celebrations of Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting. The first Young Women’s World Forum (2010) is being organized by Girl Guiding UK and the final event will be organized with Girl Scouts of the USA in 2012. The focus for all three events will be the WAGGGS’ Global Action Theme, girls worldwide say “together we can change our world” which addresses the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), which aim to eradicate extreme poverty by 2015.
The YWWF 2011 programme will focus on the MDGs of “End poverty and hunger”, “Promote gender equality and empower women” and “Environmental sustainability”, topics selected in consultation with young women. The programme will include the following elements:
- the opportunity to exchange with external experts
- the development of advocacy skills
- the design of a personal action plan for change by each delegate, to be undertaken with
- the support of the Member Organization
- the opportunity for delegates from all four World Centres to work together virtually the presentation of a declaration outlining ways in which national governments and international government bodies, civil society, WAGGGS and its members can change our world
We are looking for young women from each Member Organization who meet the following criteria to participate in the event:
- aged between 20 and 30
- active members of their Member Organization (with no requirement to have attended previous WAGGGS events)
- fluent in French, English or Spanish to contribute and benefit fully from the Forum
- committed to working actively with the results of the Forum within their Member Organization
- have an interest in on of the three selected Millennium Development Goals
If you have young women that meet the above criteria, we ask that you encourage them to apply as we hope that every Member Organization will be represented at the Forum in 2011.

Registration forms are available on the WAGGGS website. Please note there are 3 sections, to be completed by the participant and by the International Commissioner (or equivalent). Forms must be returned to WAGGGS by Sunday 5 September, either via email (electronic format) at ywwf2011@wagggsworld.org or to the World Bureau, 12c Lyndhurst Road, London NW3 5PQ. There will be some funding available for selected participants. Grants will be allocated after the registration deadline (5 September 2010).
Please encourage young women in your organization to seize this fantastic opportunity to work with other young women around the world to help solve some of humanities most pressing problems.
